I went to visit my friend who lives on Lake Gaston and we went for a pontoon boat ride earlier this month. The sun was setting as we retuned home and the sunset was spectacular. I live in a beautiful part of the state.

This is a ribbon quilt we are working on at the shop. I hope our customer will like it. Also had to have a big tree taken down in my yard, sure will miss the shade.I have lots of hungry hummingbirds this year.They drink a half gallon every other day.

We have been busy at the store. We made this quilted tablecloth for a customer. It was based on one they had for Christmas. With a few changes it looks everyday. i have been working on a new jacket this week. Progress so far, back front and sleeves pieced, have to be quilted and put together. I spent one evening with my sister working on our scrapbooks and went to Greensboro to the National Figure Skating Championships. both were great fun. I completed my pair of rug mugs for the swap on Quilting Bloggers and I am working on a row by row quilt of the 12 days of Christmas.

We made a Double Wedding Ring bedrunner for Deborah's brother. It was my first attempt at this pattern. Maybe my last. My friend made a t-shirt quilt in memory of her grandson. It will be a treasure for her family. We also made a security blanket for sale at Friends Two.

This is one of the many aprons we have made at Friends Two since we opened. I told my daughter many times I wish I had more time to sew. Be careful what you wish for.
One of our friends and her sister-in-law came by the store to show us the Cathedral Window quilt she had made. I think the pattern is beautiful. Maybe we will try it one day.

These are two sassy aprons we made at Friends Two. Also a flip flop tote bag. The second apron was sold as soon as it came off the sewing machine, the tote bag was sold also. Come by and take a look. We are making new ones each day.

Last Friday we had the grand opening for our new business, Friends Two. We had a wonderful turnout and are truly grateful for the support of the community. We are enjoying our new venture, but are still missing the drug store and all those people.
I have also finished my May piece for the BJP. It is a May Basket, adapted from the basket pattern in quilting. I used Delicas and little flowers and leaf beads. What fun.

Today we went ot Rosemont Winery where they had a wine tasting(which I did not try),and a craft show. Lots of beautiful jewelry, painting, photograpy, pottery and quilts. It is a beautiful place and the vinyards are so pretty

It is hard to believe the pharmacy has closed. We are busy cleaning, organizing, putting out new stock and finishing up drug store business. March and April

I have completed March and April for the bjp. March is "Pot o Gold", using #15 delicas and a mix of e beads. The pot overflows at the end of the rainbow.
April is Jounquils using # 15 delicas, seed pearls and the ruffle stitch from Robin A's book. It is losts of fun to do. The inspiration for this block came from the beautiful new stamps at the post office and all of them blooming in my yard.

My garden is so beautful. The Bleeding Heart, Columbibe and Wild Violets are really pretty.White Iris, Jonquils and Lenten Roses are out in full. Even the Sweet Betsy is beginning to bud.

On Sunday I went to Phyl's house to work n our bjproject. Her husband had been hard at work on his fish ponds and they were beautiful. So peaceful and serene. I love to hear the water running.

Slow Start

I feel I have gotten off to a slow start this year. I have completed Jan. and Feb,but this is my first post. I am not real happy with my Feb. piece. Jan is called Watch Time Fly and usese Delicas. Feb is call Sweet Heart and also uses Delicas. I used the ruffle technique I learned from Robin's book, and found it to be lots of fun and pretty as well. My picture did not turn out so well.

This is my February BJP pice. I call it Sweet Heart. I used #15 Delicas and it represents a piece of chocolate candy inside a box. I used Robin A. directions to make the ruffle around the piece of candy.

I have finished my 08 bjp finally. It is all put together and quilted. What fun it was to work on.
I am now working on 2010bjp. This year I decided on finished 2" squares. January was completed today and is called "Watch Time Fly", and it really does. If you think about it , 11 months from today is Christmas Eve. We had better get busy if we're going to finish all the projects we have
planned for this year.

I have been very busy these last few weeks. I painted new pictures for Gayle's bathroom, made baskets of folded fabric ornaments for family members, and found this cute snowman pattern in one of my books, so I made myself a jacket out of a sweatshirt. Projects

I have been busy with several projects. Just finished two sweatshirts for Thanksgiving with turkeys and scarecrows. My friend Dee and I worked hard on them, and I think they turned out really cute. Also painted two pictures for my daughter to hang in her bathroom. I think they are kind of funny looking but she likes them. I am still working on the folded fabric ornaments, but am almost finished with them.

It is only 62 days 'til Christmas. I am busy making ornaments for the great nieces and nephews. I am not painting them this year, but making folded fabric ones. They take a lot longer to do, but are fun to make.

State Fair

Gayle an I went to the State Fair last Thursday. The flowers were spectacular. Also got to see all the beautiful quilts and paintings. WE saw all the exhibits and were tired when we left that night. We both ate too much too!

Day Trip

Sunday we went to Wilmington to see the Battleship. It is very impressive. The kids had never been before and it was a great trip. Cold weather but a fun time. We enjoyed the sights and spending the day together.

We went to Selma yesterday to the Whistle Stop Quilt Shop. What fun that was. Gayle got fabric for me to make a baby gift and I added to my stash. They have beautiful fabrics. We also browsed a couple of the antique stores, but need to really make a day trip to see more.

Down Memory Lane

Today I went to Gayle's. We were on our way to I-95 from her house and we passed this tobacco field and barns. Boy does that bring back memories of growing up on the farm. I used to love the smell of the tobacco curing in the barns this time of year. Now they use bulk barns and you don't smell them. We had to work hard, but there was always time for some fun and memory making.

Busch Gardens

Last weekend we went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Gayle and Tommy rode all the roller coasters, some of them 4 times. I used to ride them too, but can't now. Brian an I watched them and looked in the shops while we waited. We all rode the water rides. We had Great fun!

These are my blocks for June adn July for the bjp. Now I only have to take a picture of August,as it is also finished, and then put them all together. I made June in memory of Jimmy. I printed the photo on fabric and stitched it onto the background then beaded and rubber stamped onto the background.
July was a ufo from yard sale box a friend gave me. I used red white and blue
bugle and seed beads and letter beads to dress it up for July. I really have enjoyed the bjp but I miss having Jimmy tell me what he thinks the squares look like.

Suzy Homemaker

I'm no suzy homemaker but I made 19 loaves of zucchini bread and 6 quarts of sweet pickle this month. I also had all the girls form our coffee club over for breakfast two morings because the restaraunt was closed for a week. I made a stack apple cake for my daughter also.
I think that is enough of the kitchen for a while.

All Star

We have finished another mosaic picture quilt. This one is of my best friend Dee's nephew palying ball in the All Star Tournament. These are fun to do because each week you can see more of the photo take shape. Don't know if we'll try another one though. I think one done in black and white would be a good challenge.

Last month we took a day trip to the N.C. Zoo.We walked the entire 5 mile trail. My daughter had always wanted to go, and I had never been either. My sister drove and we had a grand time. My favorite part was the new giraffe feeding station and the aviary.

I have just finished reading this book by Elizabeth Berg. She really knows how to capture the feelings you have when you lose a spouse. I could hardly put it down. My friend PK gave me a whole list of her books, I'm on the second one now.

My sister and her husband have baby turkeys and ducks. On a recent visit we walked to the pond to feed the fish and just enjoy the scenery. They also have a bunch of guienna eggs in the incubater. Something caught the hen before they could hatch. It is so pretty and peaceful out where they llive, not to mention the good fish, slaw and potato salad she had for supper.

Blossoms

The Asiatic Lilies are blooming so pretty now. The vines have started twining around the old rocker and it won't be very long before the Stargazers are open. Every day there is something new blooming. I just planted zinnias and cockscomb and with the rain we had this week, they are popping up. The Yucca plant has one tall stalk of blooms this year.

Dog Quilt

What a good feeling to be at the sewing machine. I don't know yet about sitting there alone, but my daughter was here on Monday and we made a quilt for her boss's dog. I had extra log cabin blocks left over from another project and I put them together, appliqued her name and some bones onto it and quilted it. Her boss was really good to her when her daddy died and this was her way of saying thank you. She said she would cover her crate with it, but didn't think she could let her sleep on it. I take that as a compliment. It really was fun to make.

road trip

Memorial Day weekend was a road trip for my sister,daughter and myself. We went to Charlotte to the Coca-Cola 600. The jet dryers put on an awesome show. The race was cancelled on Sunday and we had to come home because my sister had to work on Monday. It was OK though. We had a great time even in the rain.

Missing

I know it has been quite a while since I posted. Since my last posting I spent 11 days at the hospital with my husband who lost his battle with COPD on May 3rd. What a hard time this has and will be. We are grateful his family from Ct. was able to come to see him and spend time at the hospital with him. He never lost his sense of humor and was a real trooper til the very end. He will be greatly missed by us all.
We had nearly 38 years together and a lot of people don't get that. These are photos of some of the flowers we received and the members of my coffee group gave me the lovely bench. Hope to find a few moments to sit and reflect now and then.
Only in a small town would the funeral home fly the #24 Jeff Gordon flag at the funeral. Jimmy was a huge Gordon fan and I am sure he would have been very happy to know they did this for him.

I went to the annual Haliwa-Saponi Pow-Wow last weekend. I have never been before and it was quite spectacular. We enjoyed the dancing and looking at the beautiful jewelry. For my beading buddies, the back of this young ladies dress was all beaded at the top and truly gorgeous.

Our son finished in 2nd place in his class at weight lifting competition in Winston Salem a couple of weeks ago. This was his first time competing and we are very proud of him for doing so well.Maybe he'll get first place next time.

I have completed my April bjp, it is April Showers,with seed beads,sequins and bugle beads, some embroidery and other embellishments. I am working on May now. It will be May Flowers. The girl reminds me of Holly Hobbie from years ago.

Trip

Wednesday we went on a day trip. My sister,niece, daughter and myself went to Tryon Palace, Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium and walked on the beach at Indian Beach. We packed a lot into one day and had great fun doing so. Can't wait to plan another one.

I had the honor of being asked to display some of my quilting and needlework at our new library. They are going to have special quilting events coming up soon. These are the little 1 1/2 inch squares we made for The Bead It Forward project.I made the ones on the top row, my sister, my friend Dee and Phyl and my daughter Gayle made the ones on the second row. I mailed them to Alaska today. They will be grouped with others for an auction at the Bead and Button show this spring. We had a good time making them.
